Pendragon – o dragão vermelho, símbolo do povo Celta / Pendragon, the red dragon, Celtic people’s symbol

“ O Rei Arthur não morreu. Ele foi o Rei que retornará.”
Assim os povos celtas, face à total e irreversível derrota que se aproximava, permaneceram vitoriosos sobre a morte.  Nenhum túmulo será encontrado para Arthur, disseram os poetas celtas, porque ele não morreu.
Arthur não se tornaria um mero mortal. Tornou-se um mito que só cresceu com o passar do tempo, assim foi fácil para os autores medievais transformar suas aventuras em contos de fadas.

“King Arthur did not die. He was the King who will come again. “
Thus Celtic peoples, in the face of utter, approaching, irreversible defeat, remained victorious over death. No grave will be found for Arthur, Celtic poets said, the reason being, he did not die. Arthur was not to become a mere mortal. He became a myth that grew larger and larger, so it was easy for medieval authors to transform his adventures into fairy tales.

As doze batalhas de Arthur o imortalizaram. Ocorreram entre 467 e 516, e depois disso Arthur viveu mais 21 anos. A última, Monte Badon, caracterizou-se pela chacina de 840 homens em um só dia. Consta nos Anais de Gales que esta batalha teve três confrontos em três dias e três noites. A vitória em Monte Badon inaugurou o longo período de paz do reinado de Arthur, e firmou sua reputação militar. Esta batalha foi tão decisiva que esmagou o inimigo por uma ou duas gerações inteiras.

Dungeons / Masmorra

Arthur’s twelve battles immortalized him. These occurred between 467 and 516, after which Arthur lived another 21 years..The last, Mount Badon, was characterized by the bloody slaughter of 840 men in one day. The Annals of Wales adds that there were three engagements in this battle over a period of three days and nights. This combat inaugurated the long period of peaceful reign by King Arthur and established his military reputation. Victory at Mount Badon was so decisive as to have crushed the enemy for one or even two generations.

Thick defensive walls

A Batalha de Camlan, por volta de 537, marcou o fim do reinado de Arthur.
Quando o Rei ferido deixou a costa da Britannia, embarcado rumo à sua ilha oculta para tratamento ou enterro ritual, trouxe o fim da Idade das Trevas. Nesse sentido ele foi um dos últimos Romanos, um último Rei do mundo antigo. Arthur caiu como Roma estava caindo. A história registrada se inicia com sua morte.

Carlisle Castle

The Battle of Camlan ( around 537) marked the end of Arthur’s reign.
When the wounded Arthur left the coast of Britain in 542 to be ferried to his hidden island for surgery or ancient burial practices, he brought the Dark Ages to a close. In that sense he was a last Roman, a last King of the ancient world. Arthur fell as Rome itself was falling. Recorded history began with his death.
