Às quatro da manhã sairia o grupo para Stonehenge. Mas antes haveria um evento à noite, um Eistedfodd, reunião em que todos apresentariam seus dotes musicais e de oratória. Seriam umas duzentas pessoas, pois havia chegado mais gente. Lembrando da cantora, senti um pouco de receio. Como acabei fazendo amizade com dois caras (não druidas) e a noite terminou num pub, cheguei super tarde ao B&B. Optei por tomar logo um bom banho, deixar o equipamento pronto, ligar o despertador e dormir vestida, pronta para me levantar e entrar no ônibus. Dormi a viagem toda.
Chegando a Stonehenge / Arrival
The group was going to depart to Stonehenge at 4am. Before that, there was an Eistedfodd scheduled for the night. It’s a meeting where everybody presents their speech and musical talents. I estimated two hundred people would turn up, because more Druids had arrived. But I felt afraid to join them, remembering the singer… As I had made friends with two guys (non Druids) and the night ended up in a pub, I arrived very late at the B&B. So I chose to take a good shower, make my camera and stuff ready, turn on the alarm clock and go to sleep fully dressed, ready to wake up and just get on the coach. I’ve slept the whole trip.

Quase congelei ao desembarcar. Muitos dos ingleses, porém, tiraram os sapatos e ficaram descalços na grama coberta de geada até o fim do ritual!
I’ve nearly frozen at disembark. Yet, many Englishmen took off their shoes and stayed barefoot on the frosted grass until the ritual was over!

Nessa manhã o sol não apareceu, estava nublado, mas tudo bem, não era o dia exato do Solstício. Não entendi por que os Druidas não quiseram celebrar na data certa; acho que preferiram ter privacidade.

It was a cloudy dawn, the sun didn’t show up, but it wasn’t still the Summer Solstice day. I never understood why they ‘ve chosen to celebrate in a different day, perhaps for more privacy.

O ritual seguiu os mesmos passos mas, em vez de um cálice, passaram um chapéu tecido com ramos de carvalho para que cada um o colocasse sobre a cabeça e invocasse uma qualidade daquela árvore. Pedi saúde.

The ritual was more less the same as the former, only this time instead of passing a chalice around they passed a hat woven of oak branches. Everyone was supposed to wear it for a moment and summon one quality of that tree. I asked for health.

Uma mulher me deu a maior bronca por eu estar fotografando, reclamou que o clique da câmera a impedia de ouvir o que estava sendo dito! Então mudei de lugar, silenciosamente subi numa pedra para fotografar o grupo em círculo.

A woman scolded me harshly because I was taking photographs. She complained of the camera clicking, that was preventing her from listening what was being said. So I moved to a differnt spot. Silently, I climbed a stone to have the full circle view.

Outra mulher veio dizendo que eu não podia ficar ali, que não era permitido, que o ritual poderia ser interrompido se o guarda (que nem estava por perto!) me visse ali. A criatura estava histérica, na verdade ela é que estava perturbando pois não parava de falar, e outros já estavam olhando. Desci para acabar com a confusão, mas fiquei estressada pois não consegui bater nenhuma foto. Que mulheres intolerantes! Jamais chegariam sequer aos pés de Merlin!

Then another woman came saying that I could’nt stay there, because it wasn’t allowed, the ritual could be interrupted if the policeman (who was nowhere to be seen!) saw me up there. The woman was histerical, actually she was the disturbing element with her non-stopping jabbering. Others were already noticing the squabble, so to put an end to it I got off the stone, very angry because I couldn’t take one single picture up there. How intransigent those women were! They would never reach to Merlin’s feet.

Eu também não tive a elevação espiritual necessária. Não devia ter permitido que tais incidentes estragassem meu humor. Afinal, estava realizando um grande sonho! Mas quando desci do ônibus, de volta a Glastonbury, estava exausta, irritada e congelada. Nem me despedi das pessoas. Fui direto para o B&B, tomei café e fui dormir.
I didn’t have the proper spiritual elevation either. I shouldn’t have allowed those incidents to spoil my mood. After all, my great dream had come true! Nevertheless, back in Glastonbury, I got off the coach exhausted, angry and freezing. I didn’t bid anyone farewell: went straight to the B&B, had breakfast and fell asleep.
