A caminho de Chesters, Rio Tyne / On the road to Chesters, River North Tyne
Na volta de Corbridge, uma noticia ruim me esperava no Close House Hotel, isto é, nenhuma noticia sobre meu passaporte. Seria preciso prosseguir sem ele, mas com a esperança que fosse devolvido. No dia seguinte pegaria o ônibus do Caminho de Adriano até Chesters e de lá iria andando até o Greencarts Farm, onde meu pernoite estava agendado. Tive sorte com o tempo, cheguei ao sítio arqueológico no que parecia um dia de verão.
Back from Corbridge, bad news were waiting for me, that is to say no news about my passport. I’d have to move on without it, still hoping it would turn up. Next morning I would take Hadrian’s Wall Bus to Chesters and walk from there to Greencarts Farm, where I had a booking for the night. I was lucky with the weather, when I arrived in the archaeological site it looked like a summer day.

Barracks were the soldier’s rooms. Chesters housed about 500 cavalrymen.

5 – Nas acomodações da cavalaria não havia divisão entre caserna e estábulos. Homens e cavalos ficavam sob o mesmo teto (sendo uma tropa de 30 cavaleiros em cada quartel, três em cada conjunto de quartos – cavalos no da frente e cavaleiros nos fundos). Acredita-se que os quartéis em Chesters seguiam esse mesmo padrão, mas não foram encontradas provas disso nas escavações./
The normal method of accommodating cavalry was not in separate barracks and stables, but with men and horses accommodated under the same roof (with a troop of 30 men and horses occupying each barrack, three to each set of rooms – horses in the front room, men in the rear). It is assumed that the barracks at Chesters would have been arranged on the same principle, but this has never been established by excavation.
