Caminhantes na estrada entre Chesters e Greencarts./
Walkers on the road between Chesters and Greencarts

A caminho de Greencarts Farm / On my way to Greencarts Farm

The day was spent in complete awe. The summer weather, the sheep, the roman site, all so fantastic, I could almost see the centurions, the traffic over the bridge, the barracks, people in the bath house… Segedunun had been disappointing, Corbridge a bit better, but Chesters was the best. Then I realized it was late afternoon, time to move on towards the Greencarts, where I had a booking for the night. I thanked the girls who had kept my backpack in the souvenir shop, they pointed me the way to go, and there I was, back to Hadrian’s Wall footpath.

The Greencarts wasn’t really far, but the footpath followed uphill. Nothing compared to the Way of St. James/ Road to Santiago in Spain, but the day was hot and my backpack heavy with camera and lenses. What a relief it was to see the sign to Greencarts Farm, though it pointed towards a place where there was apparently nothing to be seen. At last I reached the farm’s gates a few miles ahead.

Lugar muito fofo / What a lovely place!

Lugar muito fofo / What a lovely place!

The owner was a lovely lady called Sandra who told me there were other walkers about to arrive. She was going to drive everybody to the pub at 6:30 pm, would I like to join them? You can imagine my answer. So I had one hour to enjoy my cosy room, where a tea tray full of cookies was waiting for me, and take a restoring shower before going down to meet my fellow walkers.

The first to arrive was a Scot, such a friendly guy, Les was his name. Then appeared two friends, an Indian and a massive American who attended school together and, after years apart, were meeting in England to walk together the Hadrian’s Wall Footpath. Everybody got along well at once. They were very funny, my dinner was watered with laughter and later I went to bed happy, because next day I would not walk alone.
